Learning and Improvement Framework

In this module, you will experience a strategy called the PDSA cycle (Plan, Do, Study, and Act) that will help you learn about, implement, and make improvements to your use of the DEC Recommended Practices related to teaming and collaboration. The three questions that are central to the PDSA cycle are:

  1. What are we trying to accomplish?
  2. How will we know if the change is an improvement?
  3. What changes can we make to our practice that will result in an improvement?

In Plan, you will consider why we need to focus on the practices, and you will acquire and apply your knowledge on the practices via a series of self-guided interactive lessons and activities.

In Do, you will have the opportunity to tie it all together in a scenario-based interactive activity. In addition, you may have opportunities to try out the practices in your work setting (e.g., center-based, home-based settings), practicum placement, or through role-playing activities.

In Study, you will be introduced to tools and strategies that can help you know if the change is an improvement.

In Act, you will consider what changes you can make that will result in an improvement in your practice. To make optimal use of the practices, the Study and Act phases are best used with guidance from your instructor, coach, or director. However, you can still benefit by using the evaluation tools in Study to reflect on your own practice and the action plan as well as the supplemental resources in Act to help make improvements or dive deeper into the practices.
